Baldur’s Gate 3 is full of some pretty tough decisions to make. Considering this is a world where so many people are out for themselves, it can be difficult trying to pinpoint which people truly need help and which ones don’t.

One interesting character that you can come across is the Strange Ox. This character can be found in all three Acts and is an enigma. Since some characters, such as Orin, are shapeshifters, not everything is as it seems. Here’s a guide to helping this Strange Ox.

What Is The Devilish Ox?

The Devilish Ox is the Strange Ox that you can meet in Acts 1 and 2. The truth of the matter is, it isn’t entire clear what the Strange Ox is. While it seems that it goes by the name “Strange Ox,” its quest calls it the “Devilish Ox.” You can first meet the Strange Ox in Druid’s Grove. There, it will tell you that it wants to head to Baldur’s Gate. If you question what its true identity is, it will be angry. During Act 2, you can find this creature at the Last Light Inn. Same as before, it will say it is headed to Baldur’s Gate and will get mad if you ask it what it is. Finally, in Act 3, you can find the Strange Ox in Rivington. Here, you will be asked to help it sneak into the city.

What Do You Get For Helping The Devilish Ox?

Baldur's Gate 3 - Devilish Ox Quest Reward

If you do decide to help the Devilish Ox, you will obtain a ring called “Shapeshifter’s Boon Ring.” This ring grants a +1d4 bonus to all checks while shapeshifting or in a disguise. This can be an enormous help to anyone who is Shapeshifting or using disguises frequently and is a great item for Druids.

Should You Help The Devilish Ox?

Truthfully, helping the Devilish Ox is up to you. You will get a great reward for helping it, but you won’t be any closer to solving the mystery of the creature’s identity. All you will need to do is pick up the Strange Apple that the creature shapeshifts into and then keep it in your inventory until you reach the Lower City. Once inside, the apple will disappear, you will obtain the ring, and a note will be left in your bag. All the note reads is “Thanks for getting me in! I owe you one.” At the end of the day, you get to decide whether to help the creature or not. You will not see it again, and you get a great item out of it.
