Dragon Age Dreadwolf is expected to receive a full reveal during the upcoming Summer Game Fest showcase on June 7. The reveal will likely feature gameplay and a release date, two things that have eluded the Dragon Age community for the past decade.


Though some people remain cautiously optimistic, a feeling of overwhelming excitement is now beginning to spill over across forums and Dragon Age community spaces. There’s a growing sentiment among fans of the series that this is finally their year.

BioWare has yet to confirm a date for Dragon Age Dreadwolf’s ‘full reveal’, but the studio divulged in a teaser trailer that more will be revealed in summer 2024, a blurb that’s repeated on all of the game’s store pages. Summer Game Fest would be the natural choice for a trailer.


The Long Winter Has Ended


“Honestly? I’m so excited,” reads the top comment of a recent Reddit thread gauging the feeling of the community. The comment follows with an appraisal of the series’ writing team, a group under some implied pressure because of how attached Dragon Age players are to the characters and narrative of the series.

“Perhaps more optimistically than a lot of this subreddit, I really believe in Patrick Weekes [Lead Writer], John Epler [Creative Director] and Matt Rhodes [Art Director] especially but the rest of the team as well. For me, their work has been universally appealing,” the comment continued.

A contrast in how characters are written has shaped the community atmosphere of these two games.

Continuity between games is a massive aspect of Dragon Age as players enjoy crafting and tweaking their canonical world states. BioWare even created a browser app, Dragon Age Keep, where players can create a customised world state for importing into Dragon Age: Inquisition.

With hundreds of decisions and deviations to account for, BioWare’s writing team had a Herculean narrative design task with Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.

One commenter expressed their concerns about the above, saying “I cannot imagine, storywise, if anybody can create a game that reflects all our decisions. I think Dreadwolf will be an amazing game, but will that game be for us?”

It’s certainly a valid worry, but we’ve seen lead writer Patrick Weekes navigate these canonical challenges expertly in the transition from Origins to 2 and again in the transition from 2 to Inquisition.
