Death Stranding 2: Best Structures Ranked

0

Structures in Death Stranding 2 are a major part of what makes the Strand Multiplayer system so inventive. Considering the variety of structures introduced compared to the original game, several variables need to be taken into account.

Chiral Network Bandwidth still plays a key role, and even if you can get by using other players’ structures in your world, it’s important to take into account what you build here, since they’ll ultimately be shared with other players’ worlds.

This “walking simulator” may be Hideo Kojima’s best work yet.

With that said, while you have the luxury of building anything you want off your PCCs, I’ve put together a short list where I discuss the best structures in Death Stranding 2 based on their usefulness, as well as their specific popularity among other players.

8

Chiral Bridges

Budget-Friendly Pathways

chiral bridges

These are like your standard bridges, but without requiring an excessive amount of materials to complete their building process and without occupying too much of your Chiral Bandwidth. The only obvious downside is that they won’t function under rainfall or snow.

Plus, these bridges come well-equipped with enough length to get you across most of the river paths and steep climbs. You’ll mostly want to use these to close the gap across rough terrain with rocky formations, but besides that, I wouldn’t worry too much about them since their usage is fairly minimal in my experience.

7

Postboxes

Maximum Storage

You may be tempted to ask why I’ve chosen the postbox for this list, since it only has one primary function: letting you store cargo inside and possibly fabricate new equipment if it has enough materials. However, there’s another reason you’ll understand if you’re going for the Platinum Trophy.

Every like counts to fuel that dopamine rush!

A lot of the postboxes built by other players will be worth checking out, since occasionally in my world, they’re filled with lost cargo, which can be extremely beneficial since these will greatly help you when trying to reach maximum connection level with all the facilities in Death Stranding 2.

This isn’t me suggesting that you build postboxes of your own, but that stumbling upon any in the post-game can be worth checking out, since they can possibly lessen the grind to maximize your connection stars.

Cargo Catapult

Careful Convenience

cargo catapults

A structure that came fresh off the original game’s Director’s Cut. I never got the chance to fully utilize the Cargo Catapult structure there. Still, I can confidently say it’s a worthy addition to this list solely because of the convenient nature it provides for deliveries.

The Cargo Catapult may be situational, but in a cornered situation with a heavy amount of cargo, it can help ease your burdened carrying capacity, as Sam can then launch the cargo to a vehicle far off in the distance or bring it nearer to the designated facility.

You can also launch throwable weapons such as grenades via the catapult to rain down artillery on enemy bases from a distance.

Moreover, suppose you increase your connection level with the Aeronautical Engineer. In that case, you can have Sam launch himself through the catapult, making this structure even more suited to making deliveries a breeze.

5

Safehouse

A Temporary Sanctuary

safehouses

In the original game. Safehouses felt like a godsend, and although their utility has somewhat waned due to the accessible experience of the sequel, they’re still a structure that can be a light in the darkness when you least expect it.

It has almost all the features you’d find in a facility or at the DHV Magellan, as you can rest, fabricate equipment, and fast-travel using the attached Transponder structure. It’s especially useful in the snowy mountains, so you can take refuge from the snowfall until things die down.

Rainfall or a snowstorm isn’t much of a bother unless you’re playing on Brutal difficulty, where your cargo and equipment can degrade quickly under their influence, so using these safehouse bunkers in that condition can prove to be the best way to capitalize on them. Just be prepared to finalize the structure with resources like the bridges.

4

Jump Ramp

Like Flying With Pixie Dust

jump ramps

Another returning structure from the Director’s Cut that makes such a huge difference in the sequel is the Jump Ramps, which allows you to get launched across with a burst of momentum, whether on vehicles or even on foot.

These can prove to be the most invaluable strictures when on foot, as you can jump right before getting launched to gain an extreme lift-off as Sam and then follow it up with further button prompts while in the air to gain more distance as you’re soaring through the sky.

And with no fall damage when you stick the landing, it’s a no-brainer to have these built across large gaps or even in Australia’s valleys. Even though I prioritized ziplines more, I had a couple of jump ramps built in the mountains to quicken deliveries via vehicles.

3

Timefall Shelter

Begone, BTs and Rainfall

timefall shelters

Every time I was out making deliveries and stumbled upon a BT-infested zone, the Timefall Shelters were there to provide that solitary comfort, as these structures can be used to protect yourself from them as well as Chiral rain or snowfall.

Moreover, on brutal difficulty, where I mentioned how your cargo can degrade quickly, the Timefall Shelters can help prevent and repair that. Plus, the anti-BT repellent spray activation can help fend off any nearby BTs on your back in a jiffy. It’s even saved me a few times from the terrifying Watcher BTs in that same situation.

2

Generator

Never Run Out of Juice

generators

By far, one of the most important structures in both Death Stranding titles is the generators, as these serve to charge up the battery of your vehicles and other electronic-based equipment on Sam, such as the skeletons. And just like the Timefall Shelters, these can also be a lifesaver when stuck in a pinch.

They’re worthwhile to have placed across wide stretches of land or even along the outer rims, since most vehicle-based deliveries often take an off-route for a faster way to the destination, unless the highway is fully constructed. They’re also one of the few structures I’ve gotten the most likes on from other players.

It is also worth keeping in mind that you should carry a PCC or two on Sam at all times, just to build this structure, since you can sometimes run out of vehicle battery without coming across a generator from another player. In that situation, it’s best to quickly construct one of your own to charge back to full power again.

1

Ziplines

Trivialize The Game

ziplines

To all of my veteran porters out there who platinumed the original game on PS4, we both know how these structures broke the gameplay loop to the point where you could make an entire network of these on the map to make deliveries a walk in the park.

Suffice it to say that this strategy still works like a charm, and if you’re going for the Platinum Trophy, then consider grabbing a few PCCs for the road each time you’re doing normal deliveries to ensure you can plan out a zipline network in advance for your map.

Death Stranding 2’s ziplines can also now have an alternate angle in case you don’t want to travel in a straight line. And most importantly, the biggest game-changer is how these can be connected to the Monorail Tracklayers, allowing you to have one less of these structures needed between their large gaps.

As long as you can place them in elevated and open-ended spots in the world, you can make most deliveries a breeze thanks to their quick transportation. And if you can spare the resources to get them to level 2, you can add another 50-meter range to their available distance.
