Arrowhead CEO John Pilestedt has said the studio is considering making Helldivers 2’s negative review graph into an in-game cape, thus immortalizing the great Steam and PSN account-linking fiasco forever.

Earlier today, PlayStation announced it would be reversing the decision to force PC players to link their Steam and PSN accounts in order to play Helldivers 2. The announcement came after Arrowhead’s hit live-service game was barraged with negative reviews over the weekend.

Helldivers 2’s Account-Linking Controversy Has Caused Other Arrowhead Games To Be Review Bombed

While Sony is now walking back the controversial feature, unrelated Arrowhead games have also been targeted.

“The May 6 update, which would have required Steam and PlayStation Network account linking for new players and for current players beginning May 30, will not be moving forward,” PlayStation said. “We’re still learning what is best for PC players and your feedback has been invaluable. Thanks again for your continued support of Helldivers 2 and we’ll keep you updated on future plans.”

When Helldivers 2 publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment announced last week that it would be forcing players on PC to link their Steam accounts with a PSN account, the game’s community quickly review-bombed the game to express their dissatisfaction with the decision. While Helldivers 2 previously had an “overwhelmingly positive” review badge on Steam, over 200,000 negative reviews brought the game’s overall rating down to “mixed.”

Now that the requirement has been reversed by Sony, the Helldivers 2 community is urging players around the world to reverse their reviews and return the game to a positive rating. But Arrowhead CEO John Pilestedt has suggested that the studio might be intending to have some fun with the negative reviews.

Helldivers 2’s Negative Reviews May Soon Be Immortalized

For those who might be unaware, Steam shows reviews in the form of a graph. As Helldivers 2 has received largely negative reviews over the course of a few days, the graph has spiralled downwards, resulting in an imagine that would be perfect on a cape.

Over on X, Pilestedt posted an image of the potential cape design that was mocked up by a community member, saying, “Also, the accidental cape design is pretty cool. From a community member.” When asked by a fan if this was actually going to be implemented into the game, the CEO said, “The team is talking about a good name for it right now.”

Pilestedt then joked that the cape would cost $999.99 “easy,” but then clarified that if the cape does ever see the light of day that it would be free. As for what the cape would be called, fans have already started to come up with some pretty epic names.

‘Proof of Democracy’, ‘The People’s Voice’, and ‘Liberty’s Dawn’ are just some of the suggested cape names being thrown around by the community.
