The latest commercial triumph of Assassin’s Creed Shadows comes from GfK data via Christopher Dring, the former chief of Games Industry.

Dring notes, in terms of physical sales, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the biggest UK game launch this year, comfortably ahead of Monster Hunter Wilds. It’s also sold more boxed copies in 1 week than Star Wars Outlaws managed in 3 months.”

However, despite this impressive stat, Shadows is well short of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Possibly the most interesting thing here is how AC Shadows’ first-week physical sales have already beaten Star Wars Outlaws’ boxed sales numbers by three months! We all know Ubisoft’s Star Wars game didn’t meet expectations commercially, but I didn’t think it crashed and burned this hard. Of course, given Star Wars Jedi: Survivor – a game released in 2023 – reportedly outsold Ubisoft’s newer Star Wars game, thisshouldn’t be a surprise.

That said, Ubisoft doesn’t need Shadows to match Valhalla’s sales to see it as a success; it just needs to perform well, which it apparently has done so far.
