Summary

Microsoft unveils Xbox handheld project, officially named ROG Xbox Ally X from ASUS.
Rumored prices for the ROG Ally X: €599 for white, €899 for black, translating to $646 and $971 in the US.
If the high price sticks, many may prefer a gaming laptop over the Ally X handheld.

At the recent Xbox Games Showcase, Microsoft shutdown the rumors once and for all, as the company officially announced the Xbox handheld project, which is now officially called the ROG Xbox Ally X from ASUS.

If you’re thinking of buying it, you might want to make sure you have enough coin tucked away, as it won’t be cheap.

Prepare To Shell Out A Premium Price For The Xbox Handheld From ASUS

The latest rumor comes from the reliable eXtas1s who posted a new video about the upcoming Xbox handheld’s price point — at least in Europe.

According to the leaker, pre-orders will begin in August, with price as follows:

ROG Ally White: €599
ROG Ally X Black: €899

If traditional pricing is applied, this means the white will be priced at $599 in the US, while the Ally X wil be a whopping $899. If we’re doing a direct conversion, the Ally White will be priced at $646, and the Ally X is at a staggering $971 if used at today’s curent conversion rate.

Bear in mind, the info mentioned above are still unconfirmed, and as such, should be treated with a grain of salt. That said, eXtas1s has been quite reliable in his Xbox leaks, and if this one is true, well, prepare to open break open that piggybank.

If the price sticks to that, I honestly don’t see a lot of people opting for the Ally X. I mean, at that price? I’d rather just get a capable gaming laptop that can also handle other tasks. It’s not like the handhelds from ASUS are lightweight and super-portable either.

Microsoft has not revealed the device’s release date or price, and chances are, we’ll be getting that soon if the pre-orders do kick off in August.

Thoughts on the price? Would you pick one up if it this rumor came true?
